Who can install my Heatseeker DualSun system?

Heatseeker DualSun systems must be designed and approved by both Supreme Heating and a Clean Energy Council (CEC)-accredited installer. Heatseeker Dual Sun PV/T panels must also be installed by a CEC-accredited installer. Thermal plumbing requirements must be carried out by Supreme Heating.

Will my electricity bill be reduced further with Heatseeker DualSun compared to a standard PV system?

Yes, Heatseeker DualSun generates more electricity than a standard solar PV system due to the cooling effect of the panel, which makes the system more efficient.

The electricity generated by the system can cover all the electricity needs of the swimming pool. Any surplus electricity can be self-consumed in the home or commercial swimming pool facility, fed into a battery storage system for later use or returned to the grid for a feed-in tariff or net-metering program.

Is Heatseeker DualSun more efficient than other solar PV systems?

Yes. The DualSun hybrid solar panel utilises the excess heat from the PV cells, transferring it to the heat exchanger to produce heated water. As water flows through the heat exchanger, it is heated whilst simultaneously cooling the panel. This allows up to 20% more PV electrical generation, unlike standard PV panels which lose efficiency as the surface temperature increases. A DualSun installation can utilise up to 4 times more energy than a standard solar PV installation.

DualSun Panels

How does the cooling effect of the DualSun panel increase the efficiency of electrical generation?

The efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) panels decreases on average about 0.4% for each degree increase. For instance, a PV panel that has an efficiency of 16% at 25°C, will have an efficiency of 15.936% at 26°C, 15.872% at 25°C, and so on.

This happens because the operational voltage of the PV cells decreases significantly with an increase in temperature.

One of the advantages of DualSun PV/T panels is that it absorbs the otherwise wasted heat from the PV cells into the heat exchanger, integrated into the underside of the panel. In effect, the water is heated whilst simultaneously lowering the temperature of the PV cells.

This cooling effect allows an increase to the PV power output, and can increase PV production by 5% to 15% as compared to a standard PV panel in the same conditions.

The following image, taken using a thermal camera, demonstrates the cooling effect on the temperature of the cells:

The circulation of water leads to cooling of the photovoltaic panels. The panel on the left is a DualSun PV/T panel, and the panel on the right is a standard PV panel. We observe that the uniform circulation of the water through the DualSun heat exchanger allows for a cooling of the whole surface of PV cells and that the temperature difference between the two panels is approximately 20°C.  This means that in this case, the DualSun panels will have a photovoltaic efficiency approximately 9% better than the standard PV panel (16%-14.65%)/14.65%.

What is the warranty for Heatseeker DualSun panels?

Heatseeker DualSun panels come with a 10 year product warranty as well as a 25 year PV performance warranty. For further details, please consult the full warranty terms and conditions.

Rigor and detailed attention are applied to the selection of materials as well as the robustness of production lines to produce the most reliable product for your project.

The DualSun panel has a 10 year product warranty and a 25 year photovoltaic performance warranty ensuring that the efficiency will not decrease below 80% over 25 years resulting in an excellent product lifetime cycle.

During the certification process, DualSun panels underwent accelerated cycles of extreme temperature and pressure testing to simulate ageing. With the support of ADEME, the panels underwent additional testing where even more severe conditions were performed. The results of the tests demonstrate that the DualSun panels are extremely robust and will resist extreme conditions and time.

Solar panels that have passed these normative tests over 20 years ago have lasted and continue to perform.

Can DualSun panels be recycled?

Yes!  The DualSun panel has been designed to maximise its capacity to be recycled. The solar modules are primarily composed of glass, plastic, and aluminium, three materials that are recycled in mass quantities. The heat exchanger of the DualSun panel is composed of a polypropylene material, a material that is easily recyclable and reusable.

Do DualSun panels use rare earth metals?

DualSun panels do not use rare earth metals. As most solar photovoltaic panels on the market today, DualSun panels are composed essentially of crystalline silicon (purified sand), a material that is abundant and not considered a rare earth metal.

Heat Exchanger

What material is used for the heat exchanger?

The thermal heat exchanger is made of polypropylene (more precisely, a Block-Copolymer), a material which has been in use for similar applications for decades.

This material is designed and tested to last 40 years in solar heating applications, which has been confirmed by a theoretical ageing study conducted by the PIMM laboratory of the CNRS, as well as accelerating ageing tests performed at the TÜV Rheinland laboratory.

What is the thermal performance of the DualSun panel?

As with all thermal solar panels, the power output of the DualSun panel varies depending on the temperature of the water in the panel.  The graph here-below shows the thermal power output of our DualSun panel for different applications.

Power values are calculated using the a0, a1 coefficients and the panel surface (1.654m2) in STC conditions (Text = 25°C, G = 100W/m2).
